Cabbagetown Tornado
Friday night, March 14, 2008, a tornado hit Cabbagetown, The Stacks Lofts, the CNN center, the World Congress Center, and damaged various windows to many sky scrapers in downtown Atlanta.
I was at home when the tornado hit 20 yards from my loft. My husband was driving home from the grocery store in Cabbagetown. At 9.40pm the lightening started, the power flickered, the rain started. Then the small window I was looking out in my guest room (that faces inside the cotton mill) showed what looked like horizontal flooding & then I heard hail. The power went out for good and I grabbed my two dogs to run to the hall or living room. I didn't make it out the doorway before the hail sounded to be hitting the roof so hard that the roof was going to cave in. That lasted for about 30 seconds. And then it was over.
